COMETS (Career-Oriented Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Science) is a partnership between Ocean County’s school districts, business, industry, the NAVAIR program at the Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) Lakehurst and Ocean County College to promote the study of math and science.

Our Vision

Students and their parents join with educators to view mathematics and science as meaningful for technological careers, thus motivating, equipping, and challenging students to pursue studies in these disciplines.

Our Mission

Engage parents, students, and teachers through advocacy and educational programs to:

  • recognize that mathematics and science are vital in the global economy
  • enhance mathematics and science education
  • increase the number of students who choose to pursue these disciplines in preparation for the technologically challenging career paths of the future

Our Goals

  • Raise K-12 parents, students and teachers awareness of the importance of math and science education for economic success
  • Enhance K-12 math and science education
  • Build K-12 student interest and involvement in science
  • Build k-12 student interest and involvement in math
  • Increase and support OCC student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers
  • Expand programs to middle school and high school
  • Expand internship program to include high school students
